چکیده

relatively new embolic material consisting of ethylene vinyl alcohol polymer dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) that is mainly used for embolization of a brain arteriovenous malformations (AVM) (1-4). The solidification of Onyx occurs in an ‘outside-in’ precipitation process which often allows better forward penetration than n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) (2). However, experiences of using Onyx in spinal cord AVM are limited (5-7). We present an unusual case of complication associated with Onyx embolization of spinal cord AVM.

Complication risk of endovascular embolization for cerebral arteriovenous malformation.

OBJECTIVE The embolic agents currently used for the treatment of AVMs are n-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) and ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer (ONYX). The purpose of this study was to examine the overall NBCA and ONYX embolization-related complication rate. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 147 consecutive patients with cerebral AVMs treated mainly with endovascular NBCA and ONYX embolization....

Embolization of spinal cord vascular malformations via the anterior spinal artery.

During a 3 year period, 21 patients with spinal cord vascular malformations involving the anterior spinal artery were treated by embolization through this artery. Of four cases of extramedullary arteriovenous fistula, two patients embolized at an early stage showed excellent results, whereas results were mediocre in two patients who were paraplegic at embolization. Of 17 cases of intramedullary...

Retained Microcatheter after Onyx Embolization of Intracranial Arteriovenous Malformation

Endovascular embolization is being increasingly used to treat intracranial arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). However, we experienced two patients with retained microcatheters after AVM embolization using Onyx.

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome after Onyx Embolization of Arteriovenous Malformation

Purpose. We report a case of a 60-year-old male who underwent sequential Onyx embolizations of a cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) which we implicate as the most likely etiology of subsequent acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Methods. Case report and literature review. Results. Shortly after the second Onyx embolization procedure, the patient declined from respiratory failure ...

Transarterial embolization of a hepatic arteriovenous malformation in an infant using Onyx: a case report and review of the differential diagnosis imaging findings.

Hepatic arteriovenous malformations are rare congenital lesions associated with significant morbidity and mortality, most commonly from high output cardiac failure. Efficient diagnosis and treatment demands an interdisciplinary approach, and the interventional radiologist plays a pivotal role in both. Imaging is important for diagnostic accuracy and treatment planning, and transcatheter emboliz...
